Free Chocolate Friday!

Go here after 8 am this morning and get your FREE chocolate fix for the day. This promotion runs every Friday through September and you can register four times and receive four FREE chocolate coupons. It says it will take 6 weeks to get your coupon but it will arrive a lot sooner according to my experience.

Now what can be better than Friday's and FREE chocolate hmmm. . . free coffee?! Maybe next Friday.

Old Navy $2 Tank Tops on Saturday

Old Navy is having a sale Saturday (6/20) on Women's and girls tank tops. All rib-knit tank tops will be $2. There is a limit of 5 per customer.

Hopefully, it won't be as crazy as the $1 flip flop sale but if you really want to get in on this deal I would be there when the doors open!

Got ink?

Most households nowadays have a printer . . . and just like a car needs gas, our printers need ink! But ink is so expensive, isn't it!?!

Not necessarily! There are good ways to save on ink, and I’d like to share one that I’ve now been using for about 3 years: Cartridge World.

Cartridge World specializes in bringing us affordable, safe, and “green” ink cartridges! (You can read about it here).

I personally like Cartridge World for 4 main reasons:

• They are reusing cartridges (they sell remanufactured cartridges) and therefore . . .
  
  
• Their prices can’t be beat: you can save anywhere from 10-55% off retail price of a new cartridge! My color cartridges, which are $14.50 for a new one in an office store, are $7.99 at Cartridge World. Laser toners are a great price too – Kristie has purchased hers from Cartridge World. Here are some of their prices on other cartridges.
  
  
• They stand behind their product. If something is wrong with the cartridge (which does happen, but rarely), you can take it back and they’ll replace it with another one. No need to worry about sending back a faulty cartridge via mail to the online company you bought it from.
  
  
• They sometimes put out coupons (which we love), and give a $2 credit for many types of empty cartridges if you bring them in.
  

Like I said . . . I’ve been using them for 3 years and have been a very satisfied customer. If I had issues with a cartridge or toner (which was rare), they were very prompt in replacing it.

And here is something to sweeten the deal even more: Steven Kromray, the marketing director at the State Street branch in Rockford, told me that anyone who mentions this blog when going to purchase a cartridge at his store will receive $2 off (expires July 15th)! Woohoo!

I would suggest that you print this blog entry and take it in with you so they can see how far our word of mouth reaches. Be sure to tell your friends about our blog so they can take advantage of the sweet deal too!

Attention Walmart Shoppers

We realize there are more stores in Rockford than Walgreens, Target, CVS and Hilander where you can score some great deals. However, we are just two people with busy lives and families.

As we all know Walmart does have low prices and a lot of people shop there. I personally try to avoid Walmart at all times due to my experiences, and I know Anouk rarely shops there either. That being said if you shop there on a regular basis, there are lots of free or cheap items you can score with coupons each week.

3. Rockford might not receive the same $ coupons as their papers. We have higher prices and we tend to get lower $ coupons - that just doesn't seem right.


4. We have not verified these deals for you. The deals we list on our site are ones for which we have gone to the store and verified or done ourselves. That would not be the case with these Walmart deals.

I usually don't shop at Woodman's only because the size of the store and the limited amount of time I spend actually shopping. I like their prices and the fact they are employee owned. When I have shopped there it seems to be a pleasant shopping experience.

Lately, I have been buying coffee from Woodman's as they have a large selection and decent prices. Consumer Reports Magazine rated Eight O'clock Coffee - 100% Colombian as their best buy coffee.

Another KMart shopping trip

Well, I guess it was a KMart day, because I went also! KMart is doubling coupons up to $2 (but only up to the purchase price, i.e. if you have a $1 coupon and your item is $1.79, it will only "double" $0.79 for a total of $1.79 off).

You can only do up to 10 coupons per transaction/per day.

This time I only got stuff we're going to use (I might sell the sunscreen this week at the yard sale, since I already have a lot of it and don't go outside much). I got over $29 worth of stuff for about $4.70 (including tax). Here were some of my deals.

Update on the CVS diaper deal.

We posted here about the great Pampers Deal at CVS this week only. It looks like CVS changed the page and it does not reflect the $5 Extra Care Bucks any more. If you have the printed page that reflects the $5 in ECB's, take it to the store and see if they will honor it.

I went to the CVS on Riverside and Alpine and they let me do one transaction and gave me $5 in ECB's. They told me to come back after they could call CVS Corporate to determine why they were not notified of the deal or why the ECB's were not printing.

Be friendly and courteous and show them the ad and see what they will do.

Free Activities in the Community!

What can you do for free as a family?! Rockford is such a large city that it has many activities within the community that are always free. We are going to run down some for you here.

1. The Rockford Park District - We have one of the largest park districts I have ever seen. Check out this page here for the Sinnissippi Music Shell. Download the 2009 schedule for Music in the Park, Imagination Station or Charlotte's Web Summer Series. These are great family activities for the summer.

• The Burpee Museum is also part of RPD and offers Wednesdays as free admission day: go see Jane the Dinosaur!
  
  
  
• The Discovery Center, which is ranked 4th in children's museums in the nation, offers Thursday afternoons free.
  
  
  
• Head on over to the park districts website and take a look around; you never know what you will find!

2. Rockford Public Library - Libraries are always a great free resource as long as you remember to return your books and DVDs on time! Even though their budgets are being slashed to zero, they are still making great efforts to provide outstanding service all for free.

• This Saturday, June 6th is their Summer Reading Program Kickoff for kids of all ages: newborns on up! My son started his first reading program when he was two weeks old. It is never too early to enjoy a good book.
  
  
  
• The Summer Reading Program offers great prizes for every five books you read, and the final prize is a free ticket to Magic Waters!
  
  
  
• The Library also offers a full calendar of adult, teen and children's programs at various locations in the community! We love preschool hour - singing, dancing, crafting and reading! Also, be sure to look for Anouk and I in the fall as we will be teaching our Couponing Class at the new East State Street Location!

3. Check out your local farmer's market - Okay so this may not be totally free, but it is always free to look and see what is being brought to the market! We need our fruits and veggies right?! It is a fun way to see the local farmer's and support our community. Plus it everything is FRESH off the farm!

The Buying Ahead Principle

As some of you may know, Kristie and my grocery shopping trips sometime seem a little odd. Like in this previous post here, it's easy to notice that I couldn't feed my family from this shopping trip (unless we want to eat granola bars for every meal)!

Free movie rental at RedBox

Want to watch a movie tonight? Well, go to any redbox (usually at Walgreens or WalMarts - go here for locations) and get a movie for free (for one night - $1 each night after that).

Choose your movie by navigating on the screen (or you can check online if your particular redbox location has the movie you want) . . . then right before checkout where you swipe your credit card, look at the bottom of the screen for "enter a code." Then enter this code:
