Free Hallmark Card and postage!

Here's a perfect opportunity to try out Hallmark's new "paper card" online! Send out a birthday, anniversary, or "just because" card!

Just go here and pick a card (you'll have to create an account if you don't have one - I have one because I like to send occasional free e-cards). Then type in the code word TRIAL at checkout. Hallmark will send the card (and cover postage) to your recipient completely free! You can even pick the date you want it sent!

Thanks Money Saving Mom!

Coupons for Glade's Fragrance Collection

Most of you, like me, did not get to print the great $4 coupon for Glade's new Fragrance Collection . . . a fact which makes Kristie's Walgreen deal ("soy candle") not so much of a deal at $4 a candle. I can, hopefully, sweeten the deal a bit for you.

First of all, if you are not in the Rockford area or do not go to our church, you can still print a $2 off coupon here. But be aware that I have a feeling that this particular coupon expires today!

For those of you that are in Rockford: I am a member of BzzAgent, a company that sends me "new things" to try out and Bzz about (a.k.a. I show people the product and see what they think about it, then I report the "bzz" back to the company). Just this month, they sent me a 3 wick "currant & acai" candle from Glade's new Fragrance Collection. Smells good! They also send me coupons to pass on to friends.

So . . . I have a few $3 off coupons (exp. June 27)! I will have them in my purse and will give them out on Wednesday night before Kids 4 Truth (that way you can use it before the special at Walgreens is over). It won't make the candle free, but will make it $1, which isn't too bad for a really nice candle! At the risk of being "mobbed" on Wednesday, I will give the coupons on a first-come, first-served basis: when they're gone, they're gone!

And, while I am giving these coupons away with no strings attached, I would appreciate some feedback about what you think of these new candles so I can pass that feedback on!

See you Wednesday!

Addition: The price of the candle at Walgreens this week is full price. I imagine that since it is a new product, they will have a sale on it sometime this month. The $2 coupon from the ES catalog is good until the 25th, and my coupons are good into June. So it might be worth waiting a week or two to see if the candles go on sale! You might be able to get a 3 wick one ($3 coupon in the ES + my $3 coupon) for cheap!

I have never eaten here but know several friends who are fans! Now I may just have to try it.
Thanks to MoneySavingMom for the heads up!

Walgreens Easy Saver Rebate Changes

Well there has been a rumor circulating the internet that April will be the last month for the Walgreens Easy Saver Rebate Program and corporate has confirmed this. Read an article/email here.

I know some of us are not fond of change (myself included!) and a lot of our followers were newbies to the Walgreen's Program. To be competitive in this market I am sure they have a new program ready to be rolled out. Whether it be their Register Reward's system will be beefed up or a whole new loyalty card program. Whatever it is I am looking forward to seeing what their new program will be and learning the ropes with everyone here.

Stay tuned!

Time Constraints

Hello there! I hope you like the new layout of our blog. I was getting tired of the colors and needed some "pep." I won't be doing that again for a little bit (changing the layout): it takes a while!

Today I wanted to deal with time constraints or the time sensitiveness of a lot of the deals we post here. Here are a few facts to remember:

1) A lot of the deals we post are deals we find on the internet, and to which many, many people have access.
2) This means that even in Rockford, there are more "penny-pinchers" that just the readers of this blog.
3) Rockford is not a huge city, and thus the stores often have a limited inventory of any particular item. So if 20 people go and buy 3 of something, it can "clean them out" of that item!
4) We don't always get to go "check out" the deal in person, so please do not be upset if your particular store doesn't carry the item we post about!
4) Coupons that are printable are sometimes available on a first-come first-served basis. Remember, thousands of people know about these.
5) Codes we post for online specials often have an expiration date (i.e. Chicago Tribune code)

Knowing all this, we pledge to:
1) Do our best to post about a deal as soon as we find out about it.
2) Try to remember to post the "timeline" of the deal (when it starts and ends) if available.
3) Try to find out if you can get a raincheck for the deal and let you know if it you can.

Knowing this, you may want to:
1) Take advantage of the deal as soon as you can. For example, print the coupon right away . . . go to the store on Sunday, Monday, or at the latest Tuesday.
2) Let us know if you go to a Rockford store and they are out of something that we posted about.
3) Just have fun! If a store is out of something or a coupon is no longer available, it wasn't meant to be (a.k.a. it was God's will for it to be so).
4) Remember that just because it's free or almost free doesn't mean you have to get it. Can you believe I haven't been to the new CVS yet even though I posted about a $5 off $15 coupon? I may go tomorrow, but if I don't, I'm going to be OK! :)

Just a few tips that hopefully will be helpful and reduce possible stress you may experience about the time sensitive stuff we post!

P.S. - Hilander does give rainchecks for most of their regular sales, except for specials where you get "money back" (like their Mega Event). So that's nice!

Early Bird Discount

If you haven't heard yet, our church is having its 3rd annual Ladies' Grace and Truth Conference. It is a wonderful conference! If you promise not to tell anyone, I'll let you in on a secret: I'm not usually a big fan of ladies' conferences, but I have to say this one takes the cake (or the chocolate fountain).

The speakers are wonderful, the food is great (3 meals and a snack table), you feel pampered and ultimately refreshed in your spirit. I would highly recommend going!

I don't know why I didn't think of posting about it on the blog before today . . . but here it is. I'm sorry the early bird ends today - kind of a last minute notice for you. We'd love for you to come! Even though it is in the Rockford area, we have ladies coming from Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Carolina and other states!

I hope you are all having a wonderful day . . . and I hope you can join us! Email me if you have any questions!

Another update on the Target Razor Deal.

The Target on 173 is out of both the Schick razors. They do have a lot of the cartridges left but again not as good as a deal.

If you are interested in getting this deal, I would call the store and see if they expect to get any more in this week and when. Rainchecks are not available.

CVS does have the razors on sale this week as well.
**Buy one Schick Quattro or Intuition shaver at 8.99 (limit 1)
Get $3 in Extra Bucks
Use $4 coupon from Sunday's paper
$1.99 after Extra Bucks and coupon
(Not as good as the Target deal but a decent deal none the less)

New CVS and a coupon

It looks like the new CVS on the corner of State and Alpine is up and running! And apparently there are deals to be made.

My friend Sonal went there today and scanned her card at the card scanner and a $5 off $15 coupon printed! Woohoo! I'm assuming this is because this is their grand opening week. Also, it looks like this coupon is good until March 27th.

Just in case you were wanting to make your good deals at CVS even better . . . I know I'm going to be heading there soon!

Thanks Sonal for the heads' up!

P.S. - Remember to always hand your $5 off $15 purchase FIRST before any other coupons!

A Plug for Swagbucks . . . again!

Yes, I know I've posted about this before . . . but honestly, the more I use (and read about) Swagbucks, the more I like it! I've already redeemed my points twice over 18 times now for a total of $20 over $80 of Amazon e-gift cards. And I already redeemed the codes and added the credit to my Amazon.com account, then bought stuff with it, so I KNOW it's legit. But no one tell Jeremy . . . shhh! I'm going to use the credit for his birthday (have I mentioned he's turning the big 3-0 this year?).

Anyway, I know some of you have signed up already but don't quite know how to earn some swagbucks. There are many ways, but I'll tell you about the 2 ways I use. One is by referring friends: once your friends sign up for swagbucks, they get rewarded and you get rewarded too (up to 100 swagbucks). And for once, this is a GOOD thing to refer your friends to. Who doesn't want to get free stuff? If you have a blog, you can put a link on your blog and when people click on it and sign up, you'll get swagbucks (up to 100). That's how I'm getting quite a few of my swagbucks.

The other way (most common) is by just searching. Now the best way to do this is one of two ways: 1) download the search engine toolbar (that's what I did and I recommend), 2) make swagbucks your homepage.

So what are the steps to start earning?
1) Sign up here with swagbucks. They'll start you up with 3 swagbucks.
2) Once you've signed up, go here to download the search toolbar for your internet browser (i.e. they have it for Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari)
3) Make sure that you choose swagbucks as your search toolbar (often google is the default)
4) Now every time you search, use the toolbar. Mine is at the top right of my browser and I always type in my keywords in there. If you've never used a search toolbar, you'll love it. It sure beats having to type google.com every time you want to search something!

Anyway, just thought I'd share these tips because I know some of you signed up the last time I posted about this but weren't quite sure HOW to earn some swagbucks. Seriously, once you download the toolbar and search from there, you'll see the swagbucks start adding up. I usually get 1 to 3 or more swagbucks per day with the few searches I do.

If you've signed up, let me know what you think of it . . . or if you have any questions, or comments, please email me and let me know!

Hope you're having a good day . . . after all that rain this morning, the sun is out and shining! Woohoo!

Updated 4/18/09

Update on Target razor deal

Just so you know, I was at State Street Target today and bought the last 2 Schick Intuition razors at $6.99 - sorry, but that is the kind I use! They do still have the refills for $10.19 for 3pk so your deal wouldn't be quite as good, but still better than the Walmart price. Target may get more in toward the end of the week, but I'm not sure. I just know that today they are out . . .

They still have do have the Schick Quattro razors though!

Thought some of you would want to know before running out there to get the deal specifically on the Intuition! Looks like if you're going to get in on these type of deals, you'll have to go on the Sunday or Monday of the week the deal is going on.

Have a happy spring day (though wet)!

Glade Coupon

Here is a $4/1 Glade printable coupon for their new Fragrance Collection Candle. Print two now and save it for next week at Walgreen's. After this coupon and the new EasySaver Catalog coupon. They should be free or close to it. Stay tuned!

Target freebies and near freebies

I'm just starting to discover the "joys" of Target double couponing (using a MFG and a store coupon) - thanks Kristie for teaching me about it!

Went to Target today and got these 2 deals.

Pledge Multi-Surface spray - $3.29 ea. Use this $2/1 manufacturer printable coupon and this $1/1 Target printable coupon to get it for $0.29! (remember, you can print 2 of each)

GE energy Smart single lightbulbs (13W) - they are on sale for $1 this week. Print this $1/1 printable coupon and get it for free! (print 2!)

I got these at the State Street Target. Just so you know, the lightbulbs were in the wrong spot (to the right), much to my delight since the "right spot" was empty. When I left today, there were 3 lightbulbs left and LOTS of the Pledge.

I got 2 Pledges and 3 light bulbs: I only had coupons for 2 bulbs, but since $1 was such a good deal, I got an extra one. My total was $2.42, $0.64 for tax alone! They tax on the pre-coupon total.

Thanks Common Sense With Money!

Enjoy!

My shopping day

I went shopping this afternoon and I was pretty excited about my deals! So much so that I took a picture. I did the Hilander Mega Event (buy 10 particular items, get $5 off your total) and used a bunch of coupons. I was able to get 32 items for $28.30 (that's $0.88 an item).

Now you may wonder what I'm going to do with so many granola bars - well, we're going to eat them over the next few months! I am a "stockpiling" grocery shopper. That's why my picture looks full of things you wouldn't buy in a typical grocery shopping trip. I already have a bunch of chicken, ground beef, and pork in the freezer - meats I bought when they were on sale - so I don't need to buy any for a while. I shop the sales. The only things I have to buy not on sales (but they usually are anyway), are fresh fruits & vegetables and milk.

So here is what I got for $28.30:
2 - boxes of Frosted Mini Wheat Cereal
2 - bags of Doritos Nacho Cheese
2- tubs of Land O Lakes spreadable butter
2 - boxes of Toaster Strudel pastries
6 - boxes of assorted Granola bars
3 - bags of Armour meatballs
2 - boxes of Betty Crocker au gratin potatoes
1 - bottle of Purex
3 - bags of Sargento grated cheese
4 - boxes of Betty Crocker fruit snacks
1 - small pint of chocolate ice cream
2 - Nestle frozen cup of lemonade
2 - boxes of Kroger thin spaghetti (these were not part of the Mega deal, but were free after coupon - free with purchase of Armour frozen meatballs)

When we do our advanced coupon class, we'll talk about "stockpiling" grocery shopping. Just wanted to give you a taste of it!

Here is the picture!!!

Baby Steps!

I'm so happy that many of you are excited about saving money and getting "freebies" from Walgreens and CVS. Many of you have shared your trips to the store . . . some of your trips were great, some were frustrating.

I just want to warn you though, like I warned the ladies at the coupon class, please, please do this in baby steps! I know it's fun to get free stuff (my husband says I get a "rush" from deals) . . . but I don't want some of you to burn out quickly! If you try to do all the deals, you may run into problems and get discouraged. Start small, learn, then build up!

A good place to start is Walgreens' "Free After Rebates" in the Easy Saver Catalog. Just do that for a few months and then move up to the Register Rebates and other deals. Or start small with CVS's Free after Extra Care Bucks until you get the hang of it, then move on to bigger things.

Again, just want to encourage you to start small, get the hang of a certain method . . . then move on to others! You have to walk before you run! :)

If you missed our coupon class, we eventually plan on posting our handouts here on the blog (when I can figure out how to do it). We're also going to try to offer the same class in the future - so stay tuned!

Baby steps! :)

Hilander's Mega Event

This is a notice to let you know that Hilander's 10 item mega event is going on now. Grab their flyer and your coupon binder (if you store yours like me) and head to Hilander.

I made a quick list from the flyer yesterday and pulled my coupons in less than 30 minutes. With two kids and my list we hit the store.

My total was $93.76 and after coupons and the mega event discount $34.77!!!

If you are not familiar with the Mega Event, you buy 10 qualifying items and receive $5 off. You can do this deal 3 times in one transaction. You must have the Hilander card to qualify. Combine the Mega Event with double coupons up to $.55 and save!

Walgreens Dry Idea Deal!

This week at Walgreens there is a Register Reward for Dry Idea and combined with a coupon you can turn it into a money maker!

Buy 1 Dry Idea at $2.99
Use this $2 off of 1 coupon (I found it on page 4, you can print it twice)
Receive $2 in Register Rewards (cash to use in the store)
FREE plus $1.01 overage

**Remember you can do register rewards deals as many times as you want but do not use the same Register Reward on the same deal. For instance, don't use your $2 RR to do the Dry Idea deal again or the next $2 RR's won't print.

Get rewarded for searching

Search & Win

Disclaimer: If we share something on this blog, it is to help and benefit you (or a good cause like an orphanage) and NOT to benefit ourselves. We attempt to "try out" things before we post them: so to the best of our knowledge, everything we post is legitimate. I say this because what follows may sound like I'm trying to get you to sign up for something to benefit me. I promise you that I am not. I just discovered this a month ago and am excited to share something that can get you some rewards.

I was a little skeptical about this "Swagbucks" search engine . . . but I was pleasantly surprised! In a typical day, I do quite a bit of searching whether it be for a recipe, for church, or for business. Why not get rewarded for something I already do?

So, on February 11th after research and "checking it out," I registered with Swagbucks and downloaded their search bar. Now everytime I search, I get a chance for some swagbucks. I usually get 1 to 3 swagbucks a day. By March 6th, I accumulated 45 swagbucks and was able to "purchase" a $5 Amazon e-gift certificate. On March 11th, exactly one month after registering, I received it!

I think that getting $5 a month for something I already do is fun! There are other prizes available also, though they "cost more" : gift cards to Target, Starbucks, I-tunes, etc. Maybe you don't search as much as I do, but if you could get a prize every few months for something you already do, wouldn't that be great?

If you're interested, click here to find out more or to sign up. You should get 3 or 5 swagbucks just for signing up! There are other ways to get swagbucks too (click here to find out), but searching is the easiest. Also, if you refer your friends to swagbucks, you win when they win, up to 100 points! Check it out!

P.S. Yes, in case you're wondering, if you sign up with the link in this post and you get some swagbucks, I can also get some . . . but seriously, that's NOT why I'm posting about this. I just wanted to share a way to get some rewards for something you do on a regular basis. That's why I waited a month to try it out to see if it was truly legitimate. Enjoy!

Oh Baby!

Since I know a lot of you out there are moms or moms to be, I have a great website that can help you find deals on baby related items. Check out www.babycheapskate.com.

Each Sunday, they have a top diaper and formula deals list and links to coupons if they are available. Look on the right hand side for the little blue chicken and click on Top diaper and formula deals of the week to see what they have listed for this week.

Another helpful feature they have on the right hand side under BC Essentials is Chart: Diapers per pack. This list lets you know the price to beat per diaper to know if you are getting a good deal or a "stockupportunity".

I also like the BC Predicts: Monthly Deal Forecast which is right next to Top Diaper and Formula deals. Let's say you need a car seat and you want to know if a particular brand is going on sale soon. They will know the scoop!

Get some coupons!

If you were at our coupon class on Friday, you know that the first step to saving money by "couponing" is to get coupons! And one of the best places to get coupons is in the Sunday paper. Getting the coupons from a Sunday paper is a must if you're going to be able to do a lot of the deals we post here!

We've found that the Chicago Tribune is the best around for coupons - it has more coupons than the Rockford Register Star. Plus, if you subscribe to it with the codes below, you can get the Sunday paper delivered to your house for only $0.50 a week! So take the plunge and get the paper! You'll save that $0.50 a week more than 5 to 10 times over with all the coupons you'll use!

Go to the Chicago Tribune subscription site here

Enter your zip code

Enter the code 084J or 081B

Choose the Wed, Fri, Sun delivery for $0.50 (yes, for some reason it's cheaper to get 3 papers a week than just the Sunday one. Recycle the rest, or read it!)

Subscribe! This is for new subscribers only (see fine print at bottom).

Here is the fine print:
Price good for a minimum of 26 weeks. Delivery will continue after the introductory period, for all subsequent terms at our regular low rate unless the Chicago Tribune is otherwise notified. Not valid with any other discounts. For new subscribers only those who have not received home delivery in the past 30 days. Where home delivery is not available, e-Edition subscriptions will be available at the current e-Edition rate.

Okay so this week there was a post on here that McDonald's is offering .49 hamburgers and .59 cheeseburgers on Friday's starting on March 6th. It has been reported that people aren't finding such a deal. I still see the offer online but I would advise you call the McDonald's you would be headed to and ask first!

Christian Audiobook's Free Download of the Month

Did you sign up with Christian Audiobook last month and get the free download? This month's free audiobook is a great one: "Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life"

Again, all you have to do is sign up with them. Then every month they will email you on the 1st or 2nd to let you know what the free audiobook is for that month. That's it! I've enjoyed getting the audiobooks every month - they are nice to listen to while doing housework or while traveling on the road.

Enjoy!

Would you like to help orphans?

THIS DEAL ENDED MARCH 7th - thanks to those who did this deal and gave it to me for the orphanage!

There is a great deal going on at CVS on Carnation's Instant Breakfast - buy it for $4.99 (not that great a deal yet) and get $4.99 back in "Extra Bucks Now" (it will print at the bottom of your receipt). Then you can turn around and buy something else with that $4.99, or wait until later to use it (it's good for 3 weeks). Then you have some yummy breakfast drinks . . . but what if you don't like the stuff?

Here's where the orphans come in. The orphanage where our boys live is always looking for donations - usually adoptive parents bring over some donations to help out, as we plan on doing. One of the things they ask for is Carnation's Instant Breakfast. Apparently this is one of the best things to give the caustic kids or kids that come in very undernourished.

So if you purchase this and don't plan on using it, you can give it to Jeremy and me, and we will take it to Liberia for the kids there!

P.S. - For those of you who have been asking and wondering: the proceeds from Anouk's sales at the Pinch-A-Penny store are still going toward the adoption! Thanks for asking!

Just a reminder . . .

Just a reminder that our coupon class is going on this Friday, March at 7pm at Kristie's house! Come join in on the fun. We'll be learning how to score some free stuff from CVS and Walgreen's, as well as getting some basics on couponing.

We'd love to have you come! And remember, if you come, you get 2 extra entries in our great "Spring is Coming" giveaway!

Email or call us to let us know you're coming and to get directions.
