FREE HotBook Photo Book from HotPrints every month

HotPrints has a great deal right now where you get a FREE HotBook every month. They are even throwing in FREE shipping!

Just go here and register, then upload your photos and create a book. It is very easy - it took me a little longer as this is the first time I have used their site but I just chose about 30 photos from our past month of Christmas. The process to pick your layouts and rearrange your photos was fairly easy.

It appears that this is a "paperback" book not a hardcover and it does come with advertisements which is why the books are free. However, the advertisements will be on removable pages not on pages with your pictures and according to their website "will not include anything offensive".

Happy Creating!

A few good Target deals this week!

Obviously, don't forget to check out the Christmas clearance section it should be hitting 75% off tomorrow or the next day. I always get a few generic non-Christmas looking paper for birthdays

I had been waiting for a sale on these two items and it came just in time as my coupons expire on Thursday and we had one full box left!

**Kleenex - $1.29 a box
Use $.75 off 1 printable coupon here - two prints per computer (It states Kmart but is a manufacturer coupon usable at Target.)
$.54 a box

**Puffs 3 pack - $4.49
Use $1 off Target coupon from recent newspaper insert
Use $.25 off P&G coupon from the December insert expires 12/31
$3.24 after coupons

Also, I noticed winter coats, toys and lots of other sections have started their winter clearance at 30% off. My daughter found the coat she wanted earlier in the season for 75% off - she is such a savvy shopper. Now she is ready for next season!

2010 Coupon Insert Preview

Go here for the coupon insert preview for 2010. This list will help you know when to buy a newspaper if you are not a newspaper subscriber or when to buy an extra copy if you are a newspaper subscriber. Anouk and I both subscribe to the Chicago Tribune as their coupons are better than the Rockford Register Star. (Google or do a Swagbucks search for a coupon code for the Chicago Tribune to get a great deal on a subscription.)

Also, remember to put a vacation hold on your subscription when there are no coupons. This will get you an extra 7 weeks out of your paid newspaper subscription!

Do you buy lots of diapers?

If you are into buying diapers for you little ones, then I have a site to suggest to you:

Baby Cheapskate is a great website for "baby/kid deals" in general, but their popularity is mostly brought on by their "Top Diaper and Formula Deals of the Week posts."

I highly recommend visiting the website and signing up for their updates - the site has lots of helpful information such as diaper reviews (wonder how the Target or Family Dollar brands hold up? check it out here). But if for nothing else, just finding out where the best deals for diapers are for the week is worth it!

Merry Christmas and Happy Diapering!

Debit or Credit?

Hello from snowy Rockford! I've been house-bound for the last few days . . . so I haven't been to a store in forever!

I did want to share this tip with you because I think it's important to know the difference between using a debit card and a credit card, especially online. Anyway, enough said, I'll just post Mary Hunt's tip here!

Using a Debit Card Online Is Dangerous to Your Wealth

Dear Mary,
I saw in a recent article that you do not like debit cards, especially for online purchases. This makes me nervous. I have a debit card that can be used as a credit card. I use it online all the time. Is my card different from the kind of debit card you mean? Why do you not like debit cards? Theresa B., e-mail

Dear Theresa,
There is no such thing as a "debit card that can be used as a credit card." Funds are withdrawn directly from your account with a debit card. When you use a credit card, you are creating a short-term debt. I'm sure that you, like millions of others, assume that your debit card is also a credit card because, when you use your card in a brick and mortar store, the merchant will ask you "debit or credit?" Merchants don't know what kind of card you have, so if they see a card with a MasterCard or Visa logo, they need to know whether you will be signing the transaction or using your PIN.

When you use your debit card but you say "credit" when the merchant asks, that means you opt for a signature-based transaction. The paperwork is processed through the merchant's bank with all of the credit transactions. It will not create a debt for you. You will not receive a statement at the end of a billing cycle where you have to make a payment to cover the purchase. The money will come directly from your account. A signature-based debit-card transaction can take two to three days for the funds to be removed from your bank account.

When you say "debit," you are asking for a PIN-based transaction. In this case, the funds are immediately removed from your account and put into the merchant's account.

Theresa, your debit card is no different than other debit card, and you are foolish to use it online. Anyone with your debit-card number could empty your bank account in a New York minute. Online, a thief needs neither your signature nor a PIN to complete a transaction. Suddenly, the money is gone and your bank account is empty. That creates a horrible hassle, including filing a police report, dealing with your bank, proving that you are not the one who drained the account and then waiting to see if you can get your money back. While some issuers are touting "hassle-free" restoration of funds, that is a marketing campaign, not a requirement by law. Those promises can disappear any time. Credit cards are regulated by a different federal law that makes the card issuer responsible in the event that card or card number is stolen. Mary Hunt

Hilander's 40% off sale

If you are going to check out the 40% off sale at Hilander we posted about here, then you should check out this post from Common Sense with Money. Take note that some are $1.50 off store brand coffee when you buy Kellogg's products or $.50 (which doubles to $1) off fruit when you buy Kellogg's products.

$5 off $5 purchase at Hallmark

Hallmark is throwing out some great coupons this year. I found a $5 off $5 in a FREE magazine I receive and then received another one in my email! Now anyone can print one here!

The coupon is good through Decemeber 24th and it says you may only print once but it prints twice?

I love the Hallmark store! They have some unique things you can't get anywhere else. It has been a long time since I went into one just because there usually isn't anything I NEED in a Hallmark store BUT if you are giving me $5 I will go!

What did I buy when I went?! An adorable butterfly watch for my daughter with one coupon and zipper pulls with their names on them for their stockings with my second coupon. Looks like I may need to make another trip!

Walmart Deals

Here is a huge list of updated Walmart deals from NWA Deals. Good luck it is long!

There are a few disclaimers I would like to note since these sites are NOT local:

1. Rockford tends to have higher prices than most areas - shocker! Right!? Probably not.
2. Rockford's Walmart might not carry the exact same items.
3. Rockford might not receive the same $ coupons as their papers. We have higher prices and we tend to get lower $ coupons - that just doesn't seem right.
4. We have not verified these deals for you. The deals we list on our site are ones for which we have gone to the store and verified or done ourselves. That would not be the case with these Walmart deals.
